A good long distance move is mostly decided before moving day. We start by understanding what is going: the rooms, the larger pieces, anything fragile and anything that needs dismantling. Photos or a walk through on a video call help, and for bigger homes a survey makes the volume clear. From there we can work out the vehicle, the crew and how long loading will take.

Dates matter more on a long move. Completion usually happens around midday, and on a long route that affects when the van can unload at the other end. We talk through your exchange and completion timing, when you expect keys, and whether the new home will be empty when we arrive. Belongings spend longer on the road, so packing has to hold up to more miles. Boxes need to be properly filled and taped so they do not crush, fragile items need enough padding to stop movement, and furniture is wrapped before it goes on the van. Loading order also changes on a long move. Items you need first, such as beds and a box of essentials, go on last so they come off first, which makes the first evening in a new area much easier.

For most homes the aim is a single load, because a return journey over a long distance adds a lot of time. There is no fixed price per mile. The cost depends on the distance, the volume of belongings, the access at both properties, whether packing or dismantling is included and the date you choose.
