A hedge should provide privacy without making paths, entrances or neighbouring spaces difficult to use. PHX Services offers domestic hedge cutting as part of its garden maintenance work, based near Aylesbury HP22 and covering home services within about 40 miles. Tell us whether you want a routine trim or help assessing an overgrown boundary, and we can discuss the appropriate scope before arranging work.

Start with the hedge itself: its approximate length and height, the type of growth and which sides need attention. Photographs showing the whole boundary and awkward corners are useful. A light trim and a substantial reduction are different requests, and the condition of the hedge affects what is sensible.
Access matters just as much as appearance. Mention narrow side passages, steps, parked vehicles, nearby windows and sections beside a public pavement. If the opposite face belongs to a neighbour or requires access through their garden, arrange permission rather than assuming it will be available on the day.
There is no calendar date that makes every hedge safe to cut. Many birds breed during spring and summer, but active nests can occur outside those periods. The hedge must be checked for active nests before work, regardless of the month, and signs of nesting activity need careful attention.
Wild birds' nests are protected while they are being built or used. Cutting that could damage or destroy an active nest must not proceed. If an active nest is found, postpone the affected work until the nest is no longer in use; do not move it or cut around it on the assumption that this removes the risk.
Explain what you want the hedge to do: retain screening, open up a path or keep a boundary looking orderly. Different species respond differently to cutting, especially into older wood. Avoid choosing a severe reduction solely from a photograph of another garden; the existing hedge and its condition should guide the discussion. If height is your main concern, include a view from the house as well as the garden so the privacy you want to retain is clear.
Trimmings are taken away within the agreed garden service scope. Flag other piles of branches or old garden waste separately, because clearing an existing accumulation is different from removing material produced by the hedge cut. Lawn mowing or wider garden maintenance can also be discussed if you want several outdoor tasks considered together.

The decision depends on checks for active nests and the proposed work, not simply the date. Where cutting could damage or destroy a nest being built or used, the affected work must wait. Never treat a seasonal booking as confirmation that cutting can proceed.
Send photographs, approximate dimensions, your postcode and a description of the result you want. Include access restrictions and whether both faces need cutting. Mention known nesting activity and tell us if the hedge borders a road, footpath or neighbouring property.
Yes, removal of the trimmings forms part of the agreed garden work. Identify existing garden waste separately when requesting a quote so the collection scope is clear. Keep gates and the route out of the garden accessible for clearing up.
The length, height and thickness of the hedge, the proposed amount of cutting, access to each face and the volume of trimmings all affect the work. Photos and approximate measurements help us discuss a quote for your boundary rather than a generic hedge cutting price.
