Planning an Office Move Without Losing a Trading Day
A commercial move planned around your working week, not against it.
A business move is judged on one thing: how quickly people are working again. The furniture always arrives; the question is whether Monday morning starts on time.
This is the planning sequence we use with commercial customers, from first survey to the first day in the new space.
Survey and sequence
Every commercial move starts with counting: desks, chairs, screens, cabinets, storage and crate volume, plus lift access, loading bay rules and out of hours building permissions at both ends. From that we build a running order and a fixed price.
The sequence matters more than speed. Server and comms kit, priority workstations and anything customer facing are handled in the order that gets you trading soonest.
Labelling by destination, not by owner
Number the desks in the new floor plan, then label every crate and item with that destination number. Staff pack their own crate, IT bags cables per desk, and the crew delivers to a position rather than hunting for a person.
- New floor plan with numbered positions issued to staff
- One crate per person, sealed and labelled
- Screens and docks bagged by desk number
- Shared storage and archive crated and listed separately
Timing around the working week
Most small office moves run Friday evening into Saturday, giving a full weekend for IT setup and a Monday start. Where a building restricts out of hours access, a midweek move split over two evenings is often the better answer.
Telling people, inside and out
Staff need the floor plan, the packing deadline and the first day arrangements. Customers, suppliers, your website, invoices and business listings all need the new address, and the post should be redirected before the last day rather than after it.

Frequently asked questions
How far ahead should we plan an office move?+
Four to eight weeks for a small office, longer where building permissions, lift bookings or IT installation dates control the schedule.
Can you move us outside working hours?+
Yes. Evenings and weekends are our normal pattern for commercial work, priced as a fixed figure for the surveyed scope.
Do you disconnect and reconnect IT equipment?+
We handle physical moving, wrapping and placement. Disconnection and reconnection sit best with your own IT support, and we sequence around their schedule.
How should confidential files be moved?+
In sealed, numbered crates that stay in our custody for the whole journey, with a list held by your own team so nothing is unaccounted for.
Do you provide crates?+
Yes, delivered ahead of the move so staff can pack in their own time, and collected once you have unpacked.
